Spades: Catastrophic Dragon Force
A Spades game for Apple’s new foldable iPhone, with dragons, a celestial world and three AI opponents who talk back.
The brief
The iPhone Duo opens into a small tablet and folds into a laptop-style stance. Card games are perfect for it, and nobody had made one that used the fold.
The goal was a Spades game that felt like a premium console title, not another green felt table.
What I built
A complete rules engine
Bidding, nil, blind nil, bags and the mercy rule, tested across 3,000 simulated games between bots.
Three device poses
The layout changes for closed, open and laptop positions, so the table always fits the screen.
A living world
Two coiling dragons, floating castles and shooting stars, all drawn and animated in code.
Characters with personality
James, Maya and Olivia each play differently and trade banter. The hardest difficulty is called Super Anime Hard.
Two full themes
Dragon Force for the spectacle, and Classic Lounge with a traditional deck and felt table.
Launch-ready
App Store listing copy, a privacy policy and a logo, all included.
Where AI did the work
The rules engine, the testing harness that played 3,000 games and the animated world were all built with AI. A second AI pass reviewed every Swift file for bugs before I touched Xcode.
For a business, that same approach means an app that’s tested before it ever reaches your customers.
